Often times, when we find a leak in our basement, our first instinct is to patch it from the inside. This may provide some temporary relief from a pesky moisture problem, but it is not a long term solution. A long term solution would be installing a basement waterproofing system.
Interior Basement Waterproofing System
The same can be said in some cases for purely interior basement waterproofing solutions. Interior waterproofing systems involve a drain tile and sump pump combo and are very effective at addressing high water tables and hydrostatic pressure. However an interior system can sometimes not be enough, and more often than not addresses only 50% of the issue.
Exterior Basement Waterproofing System
When used together with an interior system, an exterior basement waterproofing system can make all the difference in ensuring a permanently dry basement or crawl space.
The exterior system addresses both the foundation walls by sealing them up from the outside, as well as water drainage around the home by directing water away from the foundation during heavy rainstorms.
